Known as the ‘prettiest village in England’, visitors have been enjoying the charm of Castle Combe in Wiltshire for more than a century. The houses are hundreds of years old, constructed in typical Cotswold style, with thick walls and natural stone roofs. Make sure you visit the ‘honesty box’ cake kiosk – a pay-what-you-want community endeavour filled with decadent treats. www.castle-combe.com SN14 7HS

The river Windrush flows under Bourton's famous bridges providing a beautiful backdrop to the miniature beeches, cherries and chestnut trees. The Old Mill re-opened its doors to the public for the first time on National Mill Days, Sunday 14th May 1995. By removing the floorboards of the milling room you are able to see the two sets of stones which were used for both grist milling and flour milling. When you visit make sure to look up and study the array of machinery which used to make the Old Mill alive with the sound of milling! Old Mill Shop- Lower Slaughter The shop is run by Gerald Harris (well known Jazz Singer and Crooner) and its mission is to create an environment that is a blast from the past and very enjoyable, where… customers “walk in amazed and walk out very happy” …with the whole experience. It contains an and eclectic mix of quality items at great prices. People are amazed at the array of items on sale in a village setting. Riverside Tea Room at Lower Slaughter Lovingly prepared great simple dishes made from the best local produce. Enjoy homemade scones with your cream tea or a ploughman’s lunch to die for. Just sit by the riverside and enjoy the experience – “A heavenly location”.

We are a local independent business run by a passionate team determined to deliver a great experience. Of course, we do have more than a passing interest in beer, and drinks, but we like to think we offer more than that and a great customer experience. The standard practise is that guests to the shop come in and take a seat to sample some of our beer or cider from our 3 keg and cask lines, taking the time to admire the array of choice on our shelves and decide which tasty treats to take away. Our team are very knowledgeable on the provenance of all our products and will be happy to talk you through some of their personal favourites. Off the Square is your one stop shop for not only the finest Craft Beers, award-winning English Wines and Spirits. As well as browsing our retail space there are tables where customers can sit and sample a selection of our beers from draught or enjoy a sausage roll or sandwich from our menu prepared daily by a local chef.

A former home to the famous Mitford family, interest in the arboretum begins in late winter when the snowdrops, aconites and early flowering daffodils spring into life, followed by magnolias, hellebores, fritillaries and the beautiful Japanese ornamental cherries – stars of the show from late March until mid April. The handkerchief tree is another show-stopper in May, as are the beautiful wildflower meadows which bloom in high summer. Don’t miss nature’s natural fireworks spectacular in autumn as the Japanese maples give the performance of their lives, with colours ranging from butter gold to bright reds and salmon pinks. Whatever time of year you visit, the plant centre and garden shop offer a wide range of beautiful plants and gardening sundries and there’s a range of unique gifts available in the Arboretum shop too. The Garden Terrace Café offers home-baked food prepared daily using locally-sourced food wherever possible and a fantastic array of cakes and pastries to tempt you too. Choose from a selection of meat, fish or vegetarian dishes daily as well as sandwiches and soup. The Cotswold Falconry Centre is next to Batsford Arboretum and is a great treat for kids who’re able to watch the birds being flown daily and find out all about the successful breeding programme. The visitor centre at Batsford Arboretum is a triumph of sustainable architecture, whilst meeting the needs of the 21st century. The beautiful wooden building is made from sustainably grown and FSC sourced timber with a low profile roof to minimise its visual impact on the landscape and reduce energy consumption. A ground source heat pump provides under floor heating in winter and as grey water is recycled to supply the plant centre. Most interestingly, natural sheeps wool from rare breed British flocks has been used to insulate the whole building.
