If it's high summer, it's blueberry time! And you can pick your own at this quaint Rhode Island farm. The land been in agricultural use for more than four hundred years. In the winter, there are 8 acres of Christmas trees to choose from. The Gavin family who run the farm also keep bees and if you're lucky you can sample some of their tasty raw honey.

Sightseeing

While you savor your Gray's ice cream, you can walk over to see Chase-Cory house which was built around 1730, and served for several generations as the home of a family of whalers. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, it's not currently possible to see the interior. While you're pondering what life might have been like in Tiverton in the 1700s, you'll be interested to know that the parking lot for Grays once was the site of the local whipping post. Local lore has it that it was torn down in 1807 by a group of women outraged that one of their own was to be punished with a whipping. The judge told them the only way to stop it, was for there to be no whipping post, and so the women pulled it down. Talk about tough colonial dames!

Surrounding Beaches

There are two beaches within a five minute drive of Nonquit House: Fogland and Seapowet Marsh. They are “bay” beaches, not the equivalent of big dune ocean beaches, but they have their own homely charms. About 15 minutes away, through charming country roads, is South Shore Beach in Little Compton, right on the ocean. There’s paid parking there, life guards, and restrooms. Horseneck Beach in Westhampton, MA is about 30 minutes away. It’s a mile long beach, and you can rent paddle boards. Second Beach in Middletown, RI is also about 30 minutes away.
