Hiking/Trails

PDX has some of the most amazing trails that we have experienced. You can walk for about 10 minutes in any direction and come across a trail or park. Here are some of our favorite nearby spots.
The famous little stone house in Portland goes by many names: the Witch's House, the Trail House, and the Forest House, though usually it's called by it's most common name, the Stone House. Built in the mid-1930s, the little elaborate house was used for a decade as a public trail bathroom before the building's water-line was completely destroyed during the infamous Columbus Day storm of October 12, 1962. Hikers can find the Stone House on the Lower Macleary Trail, all you have to do is look for the largest tree in the woods, which is located along the path and you can't miss it. Ghost hunters have been visiting the woods for years trying to capture the strange lights, and shadow figures rumored to be lurking in the nearby brush. Whether you're an avid hiker, photographer, or just a lover of spooky stories, Portland's Stone House has something for pretty much everyone. A waterfall as magnificent and memorable as any in the country is located just a 30- minute drive outside of Portland. Visiting Multnomah Falls, a 611-foot-tall roaring, awe-inspiring cascade of icy water, lets you experience the power and beauty of nature up close and with ease. According to Native American lore, Multnomah Falls was created to win the heart of a young princess who wanted a hidden place to bathe... (Source: https://www.oregon.com/attractions/multnomah_falls)

Trillium Lake, with Mount Hood as an incredible backdrop, is one of the more popular day-use and camping destinations in the Mt. Hood National Forest. The roads around the lake are groomed for cross-country skiers in the winter. The lake itself is not natural: the boggy meadows here were submerged by a dam built across Mud Creek in 1960. The Trillium Lake Trail circles the lake and affords a visit, via a series of boardwalks, to its less-trafficked west shore, where a variety of wetland wildflowers can be observed in the summer. Wahkeena Falls has a beauty all its own. It's not a huge single fall like Multnomah or Latourell, and there's no lodge or fancy freeway exit to draw people. Wahkeena Creek twists this way and that through a narrow defile, the volume of water belying the fact that the creek is less than a mile long! While it's less than a quarter mile to the falls, you can continue switchbacking up a paved path to a viewpoint that provides expansive vistas over the west Columbia River Gorge.
