Great local scene for wknd brunch - try the H'euvos Rancheros. Go early to get a table, like before 10 am. NO they don't take reservations, don't be so urban...sheeesh! Just get out of bed, uncombed hair is acceptable here, (tell em you just bagged ______ Peak, wear your best fleece and line up outside like the locals do.

Best wine list in town! Upstairs is the place to be. It's Tapas style. Try the green beans. I know that sounds so not exciting but they are fantabulous and kinda good for you.

Best coffee in town. If you are a European visitor and are horrified by N American coffee, ( understandably) go here. Tell them Elizabeth sent you.. :)

After an epic day in the back county it's easy to convince yourself you can burn off all those calories. When you need a cardiac on a plate this is the best grease in the valley. Expect a line and be patient. Awesome family operators who hire everybody's teens when they need their first job. Thank god.

Oops :) It's front country so it's often hikeable year round, that said, dumbos get plucked off the backside weekly by local search and rescue, (so don't be one of them.) Always bring enough to survive a night out... and leave enough day light to get out before dark. Champagne Scree Skiing on the way down.

K county is the gem around here if you ask me. Less people, less traffic, no entry fee yet all the same wilderness and empty space with stunning views and pristine lakes as the crowded Ntl. Parks. No Cell coverage tho, so know what you are doing or head to the more populated areas. Tell your host your hiking agenda so I know where to send the choppers when you are not back on time...:) Gorgeous hike. Moderate terrain, spectack views! (Yes, you should bring bear spray.) This is avalanche prone fyi so stay outta there Nov thru June. Warning to sea level dwellers: you are still climbing up to a mountain pass, "moderate" is relative around here. NO trail markers, need a map and wits about you
