Check out Festivals, Dairy Breakfasts and Music Scene

Western Wisconsin has a thriving music scene and usually has festivals every weekend. In addition, there are dairy breakfasts in June where you have a pancake breakfast sponsored by a local farm-really fun for the kids to see the animals and equipment up close.

Appropriate Clothes/Safe Traveling

We are above the 45th parallel meaning it gets cool in the evening in summer and downright cold in the winter. Recommended to always have pants, sweatshirts and jackets in summer, add mittens and a hat in the fall and warm boots, scarves, parka and snow pants in the winter. Never, ever travel in the winter without an emergency kit which includes a flashlight, food, warm blankets and a shovel. Four wheel drive or minimally front wheel drive vehicles recommended for travel in the winter. Be prepared to be snowed in with extra food.

Mosquitoes, Ticks and Other Critters

We have mosquitoes, ticks, deer flies and horse flies. Bring a baseball cap, mosquito spray with DEET and a can or three of fogger to make your stay more pleasant. Do a tick check each and every night! Wildlife abounds in the north woods. Keep fish guts in the freezer until you leave then double bag them before putting in the dumpster or you may have an up front and personal encounter with a bear.
