The Culpeper is an eatery and bar. Simple. It’s all about seafood and BBQ from all over the globe and has a damn fine selection of craft beer, cocktails and other delicious tipples to boot. And it is delicious for sure, curly fries and amazing BBQ platters.

Voted Auckland’s Best Food Market by Metro Magazine for the last 8 years, La Cigale French Market is held every Saturday from 8am to 1.30pm and Sunday from 9am to 1.30pm. This Market is inspired by the wonderful food markets found in France. You’ll find an amazing selection of top quality products from both New Zealand artisan producers and growers and from overseas. Parnell is the original location, but they are now found in Britomart as well and both are open the morning of Christmas Eve.

Woodpecker Hill is one of my favourites. It's something of an oriental smokehouse or asian inspired BBQ joint. A little tricky to describe but the food is amazing, especially if you're a fan of a little more spice in your food. Bookings at www.woodpeckerhill.co.nz

The City Works Depot is an old city building that's been converted into offices, casual dining and a host of other spots. It's very unassuming but houses some great daytime food and drinks like the Food Truck Garage, Brothers Beer Brewery, Best Ugly Bagel, Odettes Eatery, The Botanist amongst others.

Nowhere is this expression of our New Zealand identity stronger than through our bond with the ocean. From the first discovery by Kupe, to one of the most courageous migrations by the Polynesian peoples, to Abel Tasman and then Cook. These pioneers forged our spirit of exploration and broke the boundaries of what people thought possible. Many of New Zealand's greatest maritime adventurers and explorers have emerged from this spirit, and the New Zealand Maritime Museum celebrates these people who sailed to the limits of their imagination.

Parks & Nature

Auckland Domain is the city's oldest park. It is spacious and diverse. The Wintergardens are a feature of the Domain with the Auckland War Memorial Museum sitting at the highest point. There are formal gardens, duck ponds, large green open spaces edged by mature trees, bush walks and statuary. The 75ha park has been developed around the cone of an extinct volcano. The 'tuff rings' created by volcanic activity thousands of years ago can be seen in the land contours and forms a natural amphitheatre with about 10 hectares developed as first-class sports fields. The Formal Gardens evolved from an 1860s Auckland Acclimatisation Society site to test and propagate exotic trees, birds, and trout.

Strategically located on a headland at the entrance to Aucklandís harbour, North Head, or Maunguika, commands sweeping views over the Hauraki Gulf and its islands. It has a long history, first of Maori occupation, and then as a coastal fortification. It is considered the most significant coastal defence site in New Zealand because of the size and variety of its defence installations, which span nearly 120 years and include elements from all periods of New Zealandís coast defence history. Catch a ferry across to Devonport and walk along the promenade to North Head.
