Bring a pair of hiking or snow boots.
There is always snow, mud or gravel in the mountain towns. Make sure you bring appropriate footwear to avoid injury.

Always bring chains to Tahoe.
Unless you have 4 wheel drive with snow tires or M+S (all season) designation, you will need chains in unsettled weather. Chain installers are available at check points, however you must bring your own chains.
