A very unique hike underground in an old lava flow. You will definitely need headlamps (its basically a long cave .75 miles long) and need to be sure footed for the initial descent down large boulders into the lava tube. Also, wear a few layers. Unless there is extreme weather all cars can easily manage the forest service road. I would allow a half day...it takes about 45 minutes get there and you want at least an hour for the hike. 16 years ago no one was there, but now it is frequently visited and the weekends are busy. The hike is flat and easy and you can turn around at any point. I have seen all ages, toddlers to elderly.

The AZ trail obviously entails a huge part of AZ, but I am suggesting Aspen Corner on Snowbowl road (our ski area) Go aprox 5.5 miles up snowbowl road and at a large turn you will see signed parking on the right and an obvious trail. I suggest this as it gets you up to elevation and into wonderful meadows, aspens, big views and a few hiking options. There is a short loop or a longer trail to Bismark lake. Search for Aspen Corner and you will get plenty of info. There will most likely be lots of mountain bikers, runners and hikers enjoying this area.

GOOD FUN!!!! This establishment does a really good job of creating an adventure for all ages. (there are size requirements for small ones so look into that if you have kids) Don't be intimidated! And it is just down the road from here. If you don't want to dare the heights Fort Tuthill has hiking and biking trails. Our outdoor amphitheater is also out here for our many music venues.

Despite the one way streets and the difficult parking this really is a cute, historic and sweet little downtown. Lots of shopping, restaurants, coffee and tea shops, microbreweries and art galleries. On weekends there are events on the square and First Friday of each month is the art walk for a town with a multitude of artists. Weekends provide music at many of the bars. The Orpheum is our downtown theater and there is always something happening...movies, events, music.

Beautiful high elevation wilderness trail (no mountain biking) 10.2 mile out and back. Take snowbowl road to the ski area. Drive into first parking lot on right (south) Kachina trailhead is located on south end of parking lot. I suggest this because it is lovely and hiking Humphreys can be so crowded.

Schultz Creek is the starting hub for the majority of Mountain biking, hiking and running. The locals refer to this trailhead starting point as "the Y" as it is the intersection of Schultz pass road and Elden lookout road. Take 180 N out of town and Turn right at the stoplight onto Schultz pass road in aprox 3/4 mile you will be at the Y. I am not going to get more invested in directions because I am sure ya'll have alltrails or some sort of app. Schultz, Sunset, rocky ridge...good times. Enjoy it out there.

This adventure requires a bit of a drive.. but come on.. the scenery here is fantastic. Bearizona is a delightful experience... definitely take part in the falcon and bird show, go to the visitor center and see what animals are featured for a meet and greet... it's very well done. I took my 7 year old neice last year and we had so much fun!!!

I know...you are here in Flagstaff...but if you like to kayak or paddleboard or deep water solo....THEN YOU WILL LOVE this place. A simple google search will provide plenty of enticing pictures. The start of the canyon has the usual signs of people not knowing how to respect nature....but as you get back into canyon....amazing....I promise. Rent kayaks or a paddleboard. An hour to arrive, easy drive.

Located out HWY 180 (on the way to grand canyon) Its about a 45 min drive...but it's a scenic drive. This is a unique hike through ponderosa into some WILD hoodoo formations. 2.7 miles, gentle hiking. Look it up on all trails.

Once again...I know you are here in Flagstaff...but you know you want to "stand on the corner in Winslow Arizona."... La Posada is an absolutely gorgeous hacienda dating back to the Harvey GIrl era and railroad travel. The hacienda style building features art work by in house artist TIna Mion. Her works are immense and intense. Wander thru the courtyards and gardens, browse the gift shop, explore the halls and artwork, Dine at the Turquoise room (truly unique and exquisite) stay the night in one of the historically themed rooms (past guests include Franklin D Roosevelt, Roy Rogers, John Wayne, Amelia Earhart), take the train from Flagstaff to Winslow! I go at least twice a year (after deep water soloing in Clear creek or climbing at Jack's canyon). You won't be disappointed.

Food/bar scene

This location is 3 for 1! The owners have 3 establishments right next to each other. The Tourist Home has exquisite pasteries breakfast and lunch. casual dining inside or outside patio. SOOOO Yummy. The Tinderbox is for more formal dining and higher prices, but delicious and excellent cuisine.Between these two places is the Annex which is a delightful bar, serving a lighter version of the Tinderbox menu and featuring a fantastic patio with fire pit, games and live music on weekends. A local favorite!!!

This beautiful cafe is on the way to Sedona by taking the "switchbacks" aka 89 A, and is 24 miles from here. Allow about 35 minutes...but it is a lovely drive if you just want a little sample of oak creek. The cafe has indoor seating and my most favorite outdoor patio in the area. Expect it to be busy....so off hours MUCH BETTER. The food and pastries...wow...and the salads.... After a ride or run in Sedona I stop here. I could live on the back patio. Bring a book. Next to the cafe is Garlands Native American Jewelry and is definitely worth visiting.

Downtown

Parking can be tricky and you now have to pay, there are lots of kiosks so hopefully it is not too cumbersome. AND lots of one way streets...so just pay attention :) The good thing is that once you find a spot you can easily accomplish exploring town on foot, downtown is not that big.
Verkehrsmittel

four way stops

As you come and go from Pima please be aware of all the fourway stop signs. Because we are so close to NAU and CCC the police do patrol often.
