Great authentic Mexican food, including caldo and birria, but only as long as it lasts. Always busy but always friendly, and tamales to write home about! You'll love their breakfast offerings, too.

A lot of folks ask where to take their friends (or kids they are visiting at Texas A&M) when they come into town that will be away from the crowds. This is the place!
This is the best local restaurant that has not been discovered by tourists and SEC-followers. American food, Texan food - Beef, chicken, fish - fried or grilled with salad bar, Coke fountain drinks and bottled beer in a tavern/rustic atmosphere that has never had a waiting list when we've been there. Just look at it from the satellite view and see how it's just off the radar for folks.

Great bar food - try the yuppie fries! - and lots of drink offerings. You can sit there for hours and, when you need to, go to the bathroom and write on the chalkboard walls!

This is our local hole in the wall. It's also the home of the Flaming Dr. Pepper! You won't be impressed, but you'll feel like you need to talk slower and leave your phone in the car. This is where you just go and be.

The parking lot is always full with pickup trucks, and the dance floor is as big as a doormat...but everyone is there fordrinks and dancing and not to see or be seen. Sometimes there's a band, sometimes there's karaoke. But there's never anything on tap - you're drinking something out of a bottle when you go there - and gentlemen must have a collared shirt on.
