The Langford Store is nestled in the heart of the Aorere valley, 15 minutes inland from Collingwood on the way to the Heaphy track.
This general store and post office has been providing essentials to the Bainham community and travellers since 1928.
Enjoy a pot of tea or an espresso coffee, served with sublime sweet treats.

Collingwood is the northern gateway to Kahurangi National Park and the bird sanctuary of Farewell Spit. In every direction, the environment is amazing.
Other local activities include studying minerals at Rockville, horse treks along Wharariki Beach, where there’s a seal colony or visiting the Rawhiti Caves in Golden Bay - which are well worth the walk. Perched as it is on the edge of Golden Bay, Collingwood is a place to enjoy scallops, art galleries and scenery.

arewell Spit, at the tip of the South Island, is New Zealand’s longest sand spit (25 km) and a nature reserve. It is an internationally-renowned bird sanctuary with over 90 bird species recorded in the area.
Every spring, thousands of wading birds arrive from the northern hemisphere. Other birds range from black swans to sparrows. Penguins also breed in the area.
The area's attractions include a historic lighthouse, pa sites, the seals and striking landforms of Wharakiki Beach and a cliff top viewing platform.
The caves, islands, and arches of Wharariki Beach, where seals breed, are among the most dramatic in the country. Behind are constantly shifting dunes and a series of lakes and swamps. The vegetation is diverse, with some very rare plants.
The part of the spit that forms the Ramsar Wetland site, covering 11 388 ha, is managed by the Department of Conservation as a Nature Reserve and Shorebird Network Site. The spit is ramsar site number 103, listed on 13 August 1976. This wetland area is both estuarine and freshwater.

My favourite place to walk in a peaceful and interesting environment.
If you want to escape the heat of summer or you're looking for a pleasant bush walk as an alternative to sand, the tracks that crisscross Milnthorpe make a pleasant place to be. With numerous entry points along the beach, SH60 and from Nelson Street, you can take your pick for where start your walk. For the most part the tracks are flat but because of tree roots and natural obstructions like the odd fallen tree etc, they’re not great for buggies
You can come out at the river mouth but be careful of the changing tides and strong currents. You could also come out on Milnthorpe Beach, look for shells, crabs and pipi or build forts out of driftwood. While you walk, keep an eye out for sculptures hidden amongst the trees.
