The donjon and its museum are well worth the 15 minute drive. It is also one of the closest urban centers to us with many shopping and dining options. It is also has a pilgrimage church where Saint Martin performed baptisms in the 4th century. You can also visit troglodyte wineries including one of our top favorites: Jean Francois Merieau.

At the cave at the Chateau de Chenonceaux one can taste the "Chenonceau" label (4,20 euros for 3 tastings) which is produced by Pere Auguste with the grapes located on the estate, but for the full experience (for all the wines and varieties produced by Pere Auguste in addition to the Chateau's vineyard) visiting the actual winery just a few kilometers away is an excellent introduction to the scores of vineyards in this region.

Fascinating tour (10-15 euros in French only) delving into the region's history of quarrying tufeau limestone for building the chateaux and the current practice of using the troglodyte caves for cultivating mushrooms. The boutique has mushroom products (mousseline, soup, etc) and several varieties of fresh mushrooms, in fact they are the main source of the area's market sellers. Short 20 minute drive from our home and just 5 minutes from Montrichard.

Amboise has many sites to see such as the Royal Chateau or the Clos Luce which was the last residence of Leonardo da Vinci but still it is the weekly open air farmer's market situated on the Loire river that really stands out for us because along with Loches and Blois it is the best in the region. Just 15 kilometers from our location.
