Essentials

This is a good spot close to the house for picking up necessities if you've just arrived on island. However, for a bigger shop with more choices, I'd recommend the Massey supermarket.

Food Scene

This beautiful old house is full of charm and character and has an amazing view of Castries city. Brunch on a weekend is delicious and generous, it's served on the verandah and with the lovely garden filled with tropical plants you couldn't ask for a more enchanting setting. It's within walking distance of our home and you'll either need to walk home to burn off some of those calories or go straight to sleep!

Rodney Bay Marina has several restaurant choices for an evening meal, including local cuisine, sushi, pizzas and Thai options. Its also a great place to have a waterside drink at the Broadwalk Bar. Sometimes there's a live band and quite often a dj on weekend evenings.

This is a great place to go for a delicious lunch. For around $25 EC you can choose from a selection of tasty local cuisine. This place is frequented mostly by locals and it is a charmingly authentic Caribbean restaurant.

If you want to eat like a local this is a good place to start. Inexpensive local food, big portions and an authentic St Lucian experience.

If you like fish, you will love Dukes Place. The fish here is sooooo delicious. It's fresh and grilled right there in front of you. It's succulent and tasty and I know you'll want to go back for more. They are open on Friday's and Saturdays and I have to warn you that they are very popular and you can be queuing for an hour or more at their busiest times. Go early - around 7pm if you want to avoid the crowds. It's a rustic setting, open to the elements but definitely worth the wait.

This rotisserie chicken is only available on a Friday and Saturday and it is amazing! The smell of it alone will make your mouth water, it is seasoned to perfection and you will not be disappointed. The server will happily cut it up for you and you can choose to have sauce over it, I prefer it just as it comes because its sooooo good!

Drinks & Nightlife

Gros Islet Village is the venue for 'Jump up' on a Friday night. This is the street party that is almost obligatory for any visitor to St Lucia. Dauphin Street is taken over by stalls selling local street food and drinks. It you like rum punches then definitely get one from here at a fraction of the cost compared to restaurants and bars, but be warned they are lethal!! Speaker boxes are stacked on the street corners and if you like your music loud and enjoy dancing in the street then this is your spot.

This is one of the liveliest spots to have a drink and dance in Gros Islet. It's set in a courtyard so you get the benefit of being in the open air whilst you work up a sweat dancing. There is also a small restaurant that sells great tacos (amongst other fare) so if you get the munchies you don't have far to go.

Parks and Nature

Dennery waterfall is a beautiful spot and one of my favourite places in St Lucia. It is definitely off the beaten track - you're not going to meet coach loads of tourists here, but if you want to feel like you're well and truly surrounded by nothing but nature then you'll love this place. Bring a packed lunch and sit back and enjoy the scenery. To get there follow directions for Dennery Treetop Adventure Park and then drive for another 5 minutes further down the road. Look out for a very small hut on the left hand side. There's enough space next to it to park a couple of cars. Park up there and follow the trail next to the hut.

This beach is one of the closest to our location and is only a 15 minute drive away. It's one of my favourite beaches as it's very accessible, doesn't have lots of hotels on it and really is simply beautiful. Head up to the end near the airport terminal for the comfort station and a selection of reasonably priced local creole food.

This is the closest beach to our location. It's less than 10 minutes away. It's a lovely beach, the downside is that there is no where to buy any snacks or drinks. There is a Sandal's Resort located there, so one option would be to buy a day pass and use their all inclusive facilities. :-)
