Colombo roast most of Durban's coffee, or did historically. If you're into your coffee and are craving your daily dose of caffeine (or your fourth cup - we won't judge), Colombo have got you covered.

They have the best Beesting cake. They're also quite 'different', true to their name, they're beautifully designed by Sarah Owen the initial owner and add quirky little touches to everything - from their metal embossed menus to their teacups.

The food has never disappointed, the service is fantastic & the view is brilliant (as it would be on the 32 floor!)

I'm a HUGE pizza fan! After searching for the best pizza around, I reckon this is it. Fresh ingredients are key - and they use them. Of course, the road trip helps (; This Italian pizza place is a short stop away from the Nelson Mandela capture site & Benvie Gardens... Why not make a day of it?

Parks & Nature

It's about 2.5 hours from the apartment (you need to plan ahead & call John/Jenny from Benvie Gardens ahead to let them know you're coming - it's private property). It's an exotic garden established in the 1800's. The garden's are phenomenal and boast trees collected from around the world. Going in spring when the gardens are in full flower is also recommended. There is a fee of R50pp and it's worth taking a picnic basket & blanket to enjoy while walking around the gardens.

Durban's Bot Gardens has free entrance (yay!) and is the oldest public botanical garden in Africa. It has Wood's Cycad which is said to be the worlds rarest plant. The bot garden also has an orchid house & a new butterfly zone. It has over 850 different palms and a plethora of other interesting things should you take some time to walk around. And if that isn't quite your thing - they sometimes do 'Music at the Lake' with some famous RSA bands.

Sightseeing

If you venture to see Benvie Gardens, this is a short hop away & you'll have more than likely seen photos of the capture site on your Facebook or Instagram newsfeed. It's well worth a trip.
