The beaches are reached through The Hors dune area, the most rugged part of the island. On the Hors, you can witness the formation of new dunes. You are allowed to wander wherever you want, with the exception of the area where the little terns nest, during breeding season.
On the way you might spot Mok Bay, a shallow bay between the Hors and the south polders of Texel.
All and all a days worth.

William of Orange took the initiative to construct fort De Schans around 1574 to protect Texels' roadstead.
At all times, the fort proved usefull to not the least of warriors. Both fleet admiral Tromp and Napoleon have entered the heavy wooden doors.
