A great place to enjoy the local folklore. Funny and lovely atmosphere, beautiful outside area and good prices. The Bar Orlando was founded in Sant’Agata, Italy in 1907 by a man named Cilento Orlando. His son, in 1945, adopted a cat and named him Jolly. “Alfredo took the management of the bar. He was a war veteran and an animal lover. Alfredo decided to organize a show with his prodigious cat, called Jolly. This show gave a turn to the bar, in fact, myriads of local and foreign pepole, came to see the Smoking cat. Now the bar is still managed by the same family with Alfredo’s son Orlando.”

Sightseeing

Opposite the Sorrento peninsula, in the Gulf of Naples, there is a world-famous pearl: the island of Capri, known for its beauty and its worldly atmosphere that has enamoured writers, artists and show business personalities. The island has a lush and unique nature, even hosting some animal and plant species that only exist here today. Capri is a mix of history, culture, landscape and art, a mix that has made it the protagonist of legends and tales, many of which have a place that unites them: the world-famous Piazzetta, the fulcrum of the island and the village, the essence of its identity. All around, immense and mighty, the splendid sea that frames this marvel, a sea of travellers and fishermen, of tourists and explorers, a sea that has contributed to making Capri the myth it is.

This is in fact one of the prettiest corners of Sorrento, almost a community in itself with its own shops, bars and a church (Chiesa di Sant'Anna). It's a pleasant walk from Sorrento centre through narrow streets with views across the bay here and there, down a fairly steep slope and into the marina itself. There is a bus service to and from Piazza Tasso if you don't fancy the walk.

One of the most important archaeological sites of the Sorrento peninsula, rich in history, nature and legend. A scenic road framed by huge cliffs and the remains of an ancient Roman villa, leads to a wonderful natural arch over the sea. The villa known by the name "Villa Pollio Felice" dates back to the first century. BC and is divided into two parts: the villa, surrounded by fields and maritime domus. Both connected by tunnels and stairs. The cliff, for its peculiarities, is one of the stages most visited by swimmers, especially during the high season. The site is reached by bus from Sorrento Circumvesuviana Station and by car leaving from Sorrento. Continue in the direction of Sorrento along Via Capo, up to the Capo di Sorrento.

Visite turistiche

Ischia is the largest of all the Campanian islands; vast and morphologically diverse, it welcomes about 6 million visitors annually. Among the six municipalities that it comprises, it is Ischia Commune that is the most extensive, and thus divided into two parts: Ischia Ponte is its evocative historic center marked by ancient paths and bottegas, while Ischia Porto is a tiny fishing village. The Aragonese Castle in Ischia Ponte, constructed by the tyrant Hiero of Syracuse in 474 B.C., is the most-visited monument on the entire Island. Once atop the summit on which the Castle stands, be sure not to miss the Cathedral di Santa Maria Assunta where, in 1509, Ferrante d’Avalos and Vittoria Colonna exchanged their vows. Inside is a crypt holding frescoes by the Giotto school painters. Because Ischia also has a wealth of regenerating natural springs, the thermal bath parks and spas here are practically more than can be counted. More importantly, they are appreciated throughout the world.

Procida, the smallest island in the Campanian Archipelago, has been chosen by renowned directors time and again as the ideal setting for several cinematic masterpieces. Of volcanic origin, Procida is also connected to the Island of Vivara by a narrow bridge. Not only is the sea an important trait of Procida, but also its narrow streets and churches, which somehow pair the tranquility of the beach, with walks through the town center to admire the architecture of centuries past: worth visiting in particular are the Abbey of San Michele Arcangelo, which had a central role in Procida's religious and cultural history. It rises on the Terra Murata Promontory, with the sea a steep drop below. Two beaches that visitors should make every effort to reach are the Beach at Pozzo Vecchio (a protagonist in scenes from the beloved film Il Postino) and Chiaiolella Beach (the Island’s most frequented).
