Food Scene

Fresh and local, with all of the ambience of Tomales! The sourdough is amazing and their pizza ooooooh baby. It's not Straw Hat style (is that still around?) it's more of a french breadish kinda thing. Whatever it is, it's delicious.

Fun and funky with a little history thrown in. The sandwiches are out of this world!

Grab a home made sausage, some potato salad (not your mother's potato salad here) and take it to the beach!

On the Bodega Head at Spud Point Marina with outdoor seating only. Best crab sandwich you'll ever have. The chowder is "famous", and there is even a hot dog option for the kiddos who haven't developed their palates just yet. ;)

Over in the Dillon Beach Village you'll find the Café and General Store. Two words: Chicken sandwich. For the vegetarian, the veggie burger is excellent, and all the salads and clam chowder and the fries and... and... just get one of everything. I'll be by later for leftovers. :)

You haven't lived until you've tasted the local Hog Island Oysters. This semi-local hot spot is a big attraction, and you'll see why. Even if oyster's aren't your thing, the experience is fun and a central perk of local Sonoma County / Marin County living.

Mmmmmm. Good for all the people. Young and old, and in between. A cool pier to walk out and view the seals if they're around.

Crepe's and local cheese and did I say crepe's? Holy moly. Don't go here without popping into Wild Flour Bakery for some carbs to bring back with your cheese!

Best french breads ever, and scones, and sticky buns, and pull aparts, and.... oh c'mon. Enjoy the walk through garden alone or with the kids. Usually a line out the door but it's only because they offer tastes of EVERYTHING, and your turn will come. It's worth the short-ish wait, and coffee is right there to grab as you do. Oh and it's good coffee, too. Super cute boutique next door with local goods at normal prices you wouldn't really expect. ***IMPORTANT*** Hours vary by time of year and it's usually closed Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Call before you go: 707-874-2938 and remember Tomales Bakery is usually open those days until they sell out.

Updated 3/20/23 : Closed for a while. Call and see if they're open before venturing up. Pretty cool little historic joint with indoor and outdoor seating. Beer on tap, and a good choice for families or singles. Lots of locals and a vibe to match.

Sightseeing

Because rocks standing on end are amazing! But when they also resemble an elephant, they become MUST SEE'S! View the Tomales Bay and Dillon Beach in it's entirety from this holy (okay, to me it's holy) spot.

Parks & Nature

God's backyard, I've heard it called. Hear the songs of the wind in truly one of the most beautiful spots in all of Sonoma County. Usually not too crowded, especially if you go up the hiking trail to the right of the parking lot. Pack a lunch and sit by some of the oldest Redwoods you'll ever see. A great place to spend hours and not get bored. With kids, or hiking, or meditating, this is the spot to be.

Essentials

When all else fails, run into Bodega Bay for a pretty decent sized market. Tends to have sand pails and other tourist essentials as well.

Entertainment & Activities

Just down the beach is Lawson's Landing where you will find everything fishing related, from boats to baits. The pier allows you to throw your crab net over (don't forget your fishing license available inside), and of course, we have a pot for your catch at The Salt March! Driving into Lawson's will cost you $10, and $20 if it's low tide (for all you clam diggers). More info here: http://www.lawsonslanding.com/
