Food Scene

My husband grew up in Boone and worked here for Peter Pedroni who was from Italy. Rick and Liz Pedroni are second generation owners. We love to visit Casa each time we're in town, if you have small children you can ask to sit near the bar there's a small separate room. Delicious food, our favorites are the saltimboca dishes.

Thunder Hill Overlook is probably one of the most visited overlooks along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Even though there is not much here, it affords one of the best long-range views of the Piedmont of North Carolina. From this point, it has been said that you can catch the best sunrise available along the Parkway. It is also further away from many light sources and makes an outstanding stop for amateur astronomers. There is a small trail across the roadway that takes you on a short hike in a pasture with several apple trees near the top of the hill.

Enjoy spectacular mountain views of Grandfather Mountain and Linn Cove Viaduct, with distant views into the Piedmont, from the hike on Rough Ridge. Just a 1/3-mile uphill hike from the parking area (Milepost 302.8 on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina) is a boardwalk atop the rocky mountain that protects fragile vegetation. Continue hiking for another 1/2 mile to the Rough Ridge summit (4,773 ft. elevation). The views keep getting better! There are several large boulders along the trail that you can sit on to take in the views. Take a picnic! At the summit, the highest rock has cables to help you reach the top. Total elevation climb from the parking area is 480 ft.

Hike to the Beacon Heights summit off the Blue Ridge Parkway, catching stunning views of Grandfather Mountain from a pair of rocky overlooks and exploring a beautiful, rocky, mossy forest. It’s not a long hike: round-trip, this trail spans just under a mile. But it’s one of the most popular trails off the Blue Ridge Parkway near Grandfather Mountain, and for an excellent reason: the views from Beacon Heights are far-flung, panoramic and beautiful. Two weathered, wide, gray rock outcrops at the mountain’s summit offer exceptional vistas to the south, east, and north, including the neighboring Calloway Peak at Grandfather Mountain. The towering summits of Mount Mitchell and Table Rock Mountain at Linville Gorge can be seen on the far horizon to the south.

Easy Hike: The hidden Flat Rock hike along the Blue Ridge Parkway provides fantastic views of Linville Valley and Grandfather Mountain from atop a broad rock summit - perfect for picnics. And it's an easy, wooded 6/10 of a mile loop trail with informational signs along the way about interesting trees, plants and geological features. Located a Milepost 308.3, it's just eight miles north of Linville Falls and four miles south of the Linn Cove Viaduct. The overlook has a parking area with a wooded view and small sign (elevation 3987 feet). The trail is easy to follow and goes slightly up hill to the summit (about 4,100 feet in elevation), so it's perfect for most fitness levels. Shortly after you begin the trail, you'll see the end of the loop on the right. Continue straight ahead. The trail through a dense and diverse forest has some roots and small rocks to watch out for.
