This is where the biggest German battleship, Tirpitz, ended its journey during the 2nd World War. One can see parts of the middle section of the hull above sea water, and there is a memorial monument at the site. Nice walks to the top of the Håkøya island N of the monument. Beautiful inland across the sea toward the Balsfjord fjord.

Drive in a loop starting and ending in Eidkjosen, either clockwise or anti-clockwise (driven non-stop about 100 minutes). Make a stop wherever you like, but make sure you have plenty of time to explore the beautiful, scenic fishing town of Sommarøy by the open, ocean! Plenty of sand- and coral beaches for swimming, beautiful walking, a local café, fishing from shore or by rental boat, kayaking/canooing, camping, ...

A beautiful, affordable boat journey from Bellvika, via Vengsøya and several stops at little islands/skerries on the way, takes you all the way north to Sandøy and back in the course of just over 4 hours on a ferry (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Sundays, each time ideparting from Bell.vika at just after 5pm. Waffels, coffee and tea served in upstairs café. Open sea, west of the large Kvaløya island. A "must" for nature lovers!
