Food Scene

When this bakery opened I reckon I gained 5 kgs in a week. Their raspberry danish was the culprit. Or it could have been the almond croissant. Or maybe the fruit bun. Regardless, the bread here is pretty special. For more savoury tastes, I love the spelt loaf - all it needs is some butter and you're done. Same goes for the French sticks. Expect a queue if mid morning on a weekend - I recommend an early stroll down to beat the crowds.

Although there are plenty of cafes to choose from in St Kilda, this one has a superb breakfast menu. It's a little quirky and off the track, just what you want from a St Kilda cafe - but be warned that it is well known amongst the locals.

If you are after a quick meal and don't want any fuss, Derby Thai is a winner for an easy fix. Green Curry, spring rolls, coconut rice or a Pad Thai - the favourites are all there and can either be found on a delivery App if feeling lazy, or a 5 minute stroll down the hill.

Drinks & Nightlife

After a lengthy closure, 'The Espy' as it is called by locals, has opened its doors again. There's a bit of something for everyone here. A bar to sip, a few band rooms to watch live music and some more up market dining. I prefer to have a few quiet beers in the front bar on a Sunday Summer afternoon to watch the sun go down and the fun begin. It is an icon of St Kilda.

If you are looking for something a bit more lush than a visit to the pub, this place does killer cocktails and a great layout. There's a front bar and a more cosy lounge section, or an area out the back. The last time we were there, they didn't serve food but were cool for you to bring food in or order it from somewhere else - to be eaten there. Try the old fashioned or have a browse of the extensive list - beware - they are lethally good.

Far from a misery, this bar is just around the corner from Miss Jackson's Cafe and a nice spot to prop and have one or two when waiting for dinner or the next tram. Although you may find yourself stuck there if you're not careful.

Parks & Nature

Albert Park Lake is special place. Beautiful parklands to walk through or lie about; Great sports grounds for a kick or hit a few in the cricket nets; walking tracks for off-leash dog walking or just a stroll. Go for a wander and find your best spot for a picnic. We love this place and so do many locals.

Entertainment & Activities

It's an icon of St Kilda and a must visit. The Scenic Railway is still in operation and surrounds the Amusement park. There's always activity going on around there and is just a short 10 min walk from the house. The bonus is when you are sick of the rides, there are plenty of places to eat and explore down Acland street.

The Palais is an institution for travelling Artists for as long as I can remember. Comedians, Bands, DJs, Broadway shows, kids shows - there is always something going on here. Make sure you check it out and Google 'Palais Theatre' when in town to catch a show. I recently saw Robert Plant there (Led Zeppelin fame) on a whim and it was so good. Classic tiered seating and an amazing sound that is hard to replicate anywhere.

'MSAC' as it's known by locals, can be reached by bike, walk, run, car or tram. It has multiple pools, basketball courts, table tennis, netball and a gym. It's a great spot to take the kids for a swim during the hols, as they usually have activities going on. Check the website for pool lane swim times before visiting - they also have events and swimming carnivals regularly, which require the pool to be shut down to the public.

A great place to grab a bucket of balls, and whack your problems away. There are clubs for hire and a putting green out front for the kids. They also do lessons and often have specials at different times of week.
