If visiting Battle, why not take in a visit to Ashburnham Place, which is a 10 minute drive. A Christian study centre, but the grounds and gardens laid out by Capability Brown. A lovely church within the grounds. The Orangery Tea Room, within the grounds is worth a visit.

If visiting Rye, don't miss this gem, the lovely town of Winchlesea, with its neatly laid out streets in a grid system. Wine cellars, Old Gates which used to control access to the Town, before the port of Winchlesea was lost after a great storm, which stilted the harbour up. Finally check out Spike Milligan's grave out in the church yard. "I told you I was ill"
