Fun for everyone. We take the kids here and wear our cowboy hats. There is a ferris wheel, merry-go-round, and a wild west shoot-out. And the restaurant has great steaks! Highly recommend for a unique experience in Tucson.

This is a family favorite for breakfast. Their bagels and breakfast sandwiches are excellent. And their orange juice is our favorite. Super friendly staff.

Sightseeing

Our family loves this unique state park. It does cost a small fee to access the park, but it is well worth it. Great hikes, both short and long, as well places to eat and relax. Just make sure you bring a hat, sunscreen, good shoes, and plenty of water.

This is a beautiful drive. Mount Lemmon over looks the entire Tucson valley. It is a half a day trip, but you won't regret it. Bring a jacket, especially in the winter time as it is typically 20 or so degree's cooler than Tucson. There are beautiful trees, streams, and great little shops and a sandwich shop. Our whole family loves it.

The trailhead is super close to our home. It takes you through the mountains just behind the house. Especially beautiful in the morning and evening (sunset). Make sure you bring good shoes, water, hat and sunscreen. Moderate difficulty. Just over 5 miles round trip (if you go the whole way).

This is a family favorite! We have annual passes and go often! It is the perfect size zoo (you can everything in 60-90 minutes) and the workers are very interactive and engaging. They also have a carousel, a gift shop, and a restaurant. Check on their website for hours, rates, and events.

City/town information

Tombstone is an experience. Its about a 90 minute drive from the house, but well worth it. So much history. Highly recommend going to a shoot out and taking the trolley tour. The restaurants are okay (nothing special) but the shops, shows, street performances, and characters make this a great day trip. We have gone many times (our boys love it).

This is an old mining town. Nestled in the mountains, Bisbee is full of history. The Copper Queen hotel is the longest running hotel in all of AZ. It has a great restaurant, especially for a date night. You can take mine tours or just stroll through the town and see the unique shops. Great for those who like a unique experience. Our kids get a little bored there, but my wife and I enjoy it :).

Be aware of the wildlife.

The foothills has its share of snakes, lizards, and javelina (pronounced have-o-lina). There are some bobcat's, coyote's, and other desert wildlife around the area. Just be aware of your surroundings. The wildlife typically stays away from common areas (paths, roads, etc), but just be aware. Nothing to be overly worried about, it's just one of those things you may encounter when you live in the foothills. As a general rule, if you don't bother them, they won't bother you.
