he River North Art District "where art is made" goes by the nickname of "RiNo" and has even adopted a rhino design for its official logo, so look for creative rhinos in art and signage all around the neighborhood! The district's interesting blend of urban charm and unique industrial revival makes it a great destination for visitors. Historic warehouses and factories now house jazz bars, restaurants, brewpubs, art galleries and working studios. RiNo boasts a diverse mix of creative businesses ranging from visual artists, designers and furniture makers, to craft distillers and brewers, winemakers, creators of unique outdoor gear and small-batch coffee roasters. The art definitely extends beyond gallery walls in this neighborhood, with its colorful and innovative street art murals in alleys and on buildings around almost every corner!

Victorian-era homes and buildings; lush gardens and parks; hip independently owned shops; art galleries; and restaurants, all make the Denver Highlands neighborhood a great destination for visitors. There are three diverse districts to discover: Highlands Square, Tennyson Street and Lower Highland (LoHi). Boutiques, wine shops and bookstores, as well as popular restaurants and bars radiate out from Highland Square on West 32nd Avenue and Lowell Boulevard. And, in the Tennyson Street Cultural District, you can spend an afternoon browsing antique prints, photographs and paintings from Colorado artists, plus find live music venues and great ethnic foods. LoHi is characterized by a mix of old and ultra-modern architecture, some of the city's most innovative restaurants and bars and incredible views of the Highland Bridge and downtown Denver.

Pizza, oysters, and bubbles on tap are on the menu at this casual hangout set on Larimer Street. Diners can grab lunch or stop in for a late bite, but don’t miss the clam pizza. A small selection of expertly executed Italian cocktails and cherry-picked wines and beers go well with every meal. As for the space, it’s a single shipping container with just a handful of tables and a few bar seats.

Marco’s has been on this list before and it’s been added back on for one main reason: over 10 years after it first opened its doors a couple of blocks from Coors Field, it’s still consistently churning out some of the best Neapolitan pizzas in the city. Those pizzas, which are cooked in the first wood oven in Colorado to be certified by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletan, come out with a light and slightly bubbling crust that has just the right amount of char. The tangy wings, which are also made in that oven and come coated in limoncello rather than hot sauce, are also a Denver classic.

This is located in Boulder, but SO Worth the drive! Plus you can check out Pearl Street in Boulder, the beautiful CU campus and enjoy a nice hike while you are out there. I highly recommend the Lobster and Grits! Unbelievably delicious. On recent visits to Arcana, a charming Boulder restaurant inspired by and dedicated to American heritage cooking, chef Samuel McCandless and his talented team have offered such tempting snacks and small plates in the “first” and “second” portions of their menu that I’ve happily stuffed myself with shareable bites, rarely making it to the larger dishes in the “third” section. (Dessert is also a must at Arcana, so I tend to save just enough room for that.) The seasonal farmers’ cheese toast is a perfect example of a plate I can’t pass up. It features sous chef Luke Miller’s marvelous anadama bread, creamy house-made farmer’s cheese, and an ever-changing set of toppings: Fresh fava beans and Calabrian chile oil provided a parade of textures and flavors this past spring, and grilled sorghum-and-bourbon-marinated peaches were fantastic in August. I can’t help but order the mini ham sliders with coffee-pickled shallots (again, on a Miller-made bun), any small plate featuring Buckner Family Farm lamb (the tostada with hoja santa salsa verde in particular), and the roasted wild mushroom dish that changes with the seasons. Desserts are simple and stunning, from the decadent sorbet made with local Fortuna chocolate to the rotating roster of sublime pies and cakes. $$$$, 909 Walnut St., Boulder,

“A line forms before it even opens – that says it all” about the popularity of this wee, “hip” destination for modern Asian fare in LoHi, showcasing chef-owner Tommy Lee’s “fresh, flavorful” ramen and “unique”, ever-changing roster of small plates; some fans fear the “prohibitive” wait times prove it’s a “victim of its own success”, but farsighted sorts “just plan for a leisurely evening and have a few drinks” on the patio – the list of craft beers, sakes and food-friendly wines is relatively extensive. -Zagat Review
