1. Plaza de España
It is situated in the northern part of the park. Aníbal González was the architect who
carried out this project, whose construction began in 1914. This project was the most
ambitious and expensive one of the exposition, with 1,000 people working on it.
The square has quite big dimensions (170 meters). It has a semi-elliptical shape, as a
symbol of Spain giving a hug to its old American colonies. It is also looking to the river
Guadalquivir, as a metaphor of the way to America.
At the opposite sides of the square we can find two towers, known as North and South
towers. Both have a baroque style and 74 meters of height.
