Kusa no Niwa is a traditional Japanese-style house with a courtyard and corridors that was built more than 130 years ago.

The entire house with a size of 100 square meters will be lent privately to a single group with a maximum capacity of 6 persons.

You will find a fusuma, a sliding door with a paper panel, painted by a famous Japanese Painter, which can be also found in the Taue’s House, an Important Cultural Property, located in Nyukawa Town.

Die Unterkunft
The house is in a 2-minute-walk distance from the two Important Cultural Properties the “Kusakabe Folk Museum” and the “Yoshijima House” as well as it is just a 4-minute-walk to the famous Miyagawa Morning Market. Although located in a convenient district, you will feel completely at home and will be able to spend the time as though you are actually living in this peaceful residence.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you walk towards the house passing the parking lot, you will find a wild grass garden on your right side.

On your left, you will find the front door and as soon as you enter, you will feel the history of the house that has been there for 130 years.

Every room is facing the courtyard and through the corridors, you are able to enjoy the beautiful courtyard.

Even from bathtub, you are able to view the courtyard and we’re sure you are going to love the bathing room that is fully made of cypress.

We would like you to forget the hustle and bustle of everyday and relax in the cypress tub while watching the quiet night sky or while cherishing the seasonal colors of the courtyard shine in the sunlight.

After returning from the Morning Market, why not take a coffee break and enjoy the beautiful scenery while feeling the breeze coming through the window in the warm seasons.

It is our utmost hope that our guests feel and experience the rich history and culture, as well as the beautiful and distinct four seasons of Takayama while actually sitting and resting in a 130 years-old-house that was built by skillful carpenters.

The road in front of the house is Kitayama promenade. As you slowly climb up the slope about ten minutes, you could watch the superb view of the mountains of Norikuradake. Walking in the morning and evening which the mountains glow with orange color is also an exceptionally wonderful scene. Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine performed at the autumn festival is in two-minutes walk from this "grass garden". The views of the four seasons along the Enako river from Miyagawa are beautiful as breathtaking, loved by local people, and carefully protected to keep beautifully.
