Abi's Arboreal Abode & Hammock Haven is a 15' yurt nestled like a bird-nest 10' off the ground in a grove of walnut trees with an adjacent outhouse. There is a bunk-bed with full-size futon bottom bunk, single top bunk, and a single trundle. This rental has electric, heat, and air, but is still just a tent so it can get hot/cold./damp. There is a centrally-located, shared-use kitchen and a seasonal (Apr - Nov) bath house with showers. BOOKING BETWEEN NOV. 1 - MAR 31? READ SPECIAL NOTICE!

SPECIAL NOTICE FOR GUESTS BOOKING BETWEEN NOVEMBER 1ST AND MARCH 31ST: we're making improvements! We are dismantling the Courtesy Kitchen and building a new and improved event facility! The new space will be a year-round, CLIMATE-CONTROLLED, shared-use space with state-of-the-art kitchen, indoor dining, full bath, coin-laundry, and other amenities. HOWEVER, this means there will be NO KITCHEN AVAILABLE DURING CONSTRUCTION. Nightly rates have been deeply discounted to reflect this inconvenience. Please prepare to be self-sufficient or enjoy our local restaurants. Message us with any questions.

HomeGrown HideAways is a hundred acre holler in the beautiful Red Lick Valley near Berea, Ky. We have all the good (beautiful views, babbling brook, hiking trails) and the bad (insects, noisy roosters, poison ivy) that nature has to offer so come prepared. We recommend hiking boots, bug spray, and jackets for cool nights.

The treehouse has a bunk-bed with a single mattress on the top and a full-size futon on the bottom. There is also a trundle with a single-sized mattress that pulls out from under the bunk-bed. The beds have sheets, pillows, and cotton blankets. There is a small patio table and two chairs outside and a drop-leaf dining table with four fold-away chairs inside the treehouse. Spring water is provided.

The treehouse is equipped with electricity, heat, and air conditioning. There is an attic fan in the roof to enhance the ventilation, but please remember that the yurt is just an over-sized tent. Even with the heat and AC, it can be hot in the summer, cold in the winter, and be a little leaky if the rain falls hard and the wind blows the wrong direction. It's camping!

There is a spiral staircase to access the treehouse deck, but we have also installed an electric lift for getting your belongings up to the platform. There's a firepit, 2 hammocks, and a picnic table. There's an outhouse next to the treehouse, but also a rustic seasonal bath house (April - Nov) with showers and flushers.

Firewood bundles are for sale at the Courtesy Kitchen or you can scavenge the forest for dead wood. Due to the invasive Emerald Ash Borer, we ask that you please do not bring in firewood and DO NOT burn anything that isn't a wood or paper product. Plastic, glass, and metal are not only toxic, but ILLEGAL to burn.

Zugang für Gäste
Feel free to wander around the farm and check out the scenery. There is a steep and rugged 1.5 mile hiking trail that encompasses the property along with a variety of side-trails (be sure to watch out for poison ivy!). We have a small playground with swings for the kids (and kids at heart). We also have two disc golf baskets and discs plus a croquet set you are welcome to set up. If you're feeling adventurous, Get Outside Ky is just 6 miles away and rents kayaks for paddling the Owsley Fork Reservoir where you can spot bald eagles, otters, and beavers.

For your convenience, the courtesy kitchen next to the pavilion is equipped with a phone (free long-distance), cookware, dishes, and kitchen appliances that you are welcome to use as long as you clean up after yourself. We also have a small "Farm Stand" where you can purchase our HomeGrown eggs and seasonal produce (when available).

We have several fire-pits on the farm and we ask that you make use of these instead of making your own, otherwise our farm looks like it has chicken pox from all the ground-fires. We have firewood for sale or wood can be gathered for free from our 80 acres of forest.

We have a shared-use bath house for all of our guests that is available from April through October (or for as long as temperatures are predicted to stay above freezing). It features 4 flushing toilets and 2 solar-heated showers. We do provide toilet paper, but not towels or toiletries. For our winter guests, we built three outhouses (one near the Yome, one in the RV area near Abi's treehouse, and one near the Treetop Flyer), but showers will not be available.

All of our neighbors are friendly and accustomed to us having frequent guests so feel free to say hello if you see them out and about. Many of them will talk your ear right off with all the stories about our holler.

Weitere wichtige Hinweise
We are a farm in the mountains so be prepared to encounter INSECTS (mosquitoes, ticks, chiggers), WILDLIFE (deer, turkey, snakes, toads, and dare we mention the bear track we spotted one spring?), WEATHER (hot, cold, rain, snow), TOXIC PLANTS (poison ivy, stinging nettle, wild mushrooms), just to name a few.

Prepare to UNPLUG. There is no cell phone or internet reception at our place. Occasionally, some folks are able to catch a brief signal, but don't plan to have digital access. The closest place to get a decent signal is at the cemetery near the reservoir. There is a telephone you can use in our courtesy kitchen.

Please leave your pets at home. In addition to the native wildlife, we have dogs, cats, chickens, and roosters to keep you company.

We live in a DRY county so if you enjoy an evening libation, you'll need to BYO.

Items we recommend bringing: bug spray, hiking shoes/mudboots, slippers, earplugs (sometimes the coyotes throw big parties), and shower shoes (the bath house is rustic with a concrete floor).

HomeGrown HideAways is on a narrow and curvy 2 mile dead-end road, nestled in the foothills of the Appalachians. Some folks aren't used to country roads, but just take it slow and arrive before dark whenever possible.

The nearest stores are the Big Hill Marathon and the Dollar General (about 6 miles away). Berea is 12 miles and Richmond is 18 miles. Tater Knob pottery is about 3 miles from the farm. Tater Knob open Monday - Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed New Year's Day, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Prepare to UNPLUG. No cell service, no wifi, just nature (but you can easily find us on the world wide web)! HomeGrown HideAways is a hundred-acre holler near Berea, Ky. It is owned and operated by Nathan & Jessa Turner, Jessa's mom, and a variety of pets and wildlife. All guests have access to our Courtesy Kitchen which has a telephone, COFFEE, and all major appliances (oven, stove, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, sink, and a few dishes). It's nothing glamorous, but it can beat trying to cook on a fire in the rain! We'd definitely encourage you to go into Berea for some of the great food options there. We have a hiking trail, several fire pits, and are just 6 miles from Get Outside Ky where you can rent kayaks. We do not have tv, internet, or cell reception. There are as many stars as there are bugs so come prepared for both! The farm's bath house is open from April through October (or whenever temps remain above freezing for an extended period of time) and features 4 flush toilets and 2 solar-heated showers. Winter guests can use one of our three, luxurious outhouses, but won't have access to showers. We ask that you leave your pets at home, but you are welcome to snuggle ours. If you don't like dogs, our place may not be a good fit for you since our critters get pretty excited to meet new guests and may jump on you (we promise we're working on training). For those with service animals (ESAs are not allowed), please be aware that there are coyotes, hawks, and other wildlife that might be a danger and we cannot guarantee how our dogs might react to your assistant. Please chat with us ahead of time to make sure we're the right option for you. We love sharing our beautiful farm and hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

We live on the property so unless we're out running errands, we are typically home and easily accessible if you need us. When possible, we try to give a farm tour to all our guests when they arrive so they know where to find everything they might need (dishes, firewood, etc). After that, we generally leave you in peace unless you need something from us. We wake early and sleep early so knock loudly after 9 pm if you need assistance.

The residents of HomeGrown HideAways recognize that you're probably visiting our farm to escape the daily hustle and bustle of regular life and might be looking for some peace and quiet away from other humans. No worries! While you are likely to see residents puttering around the farm doing chores, you're under no obligation to make chit-chat with us (unless, of course, you need something). On the flip-side, we'll never turn away anyone that wants to keep us company while we weed the garden!

We are a working farm so sometimes you can expect to hear things like tractors, chainsaws, roosters, barking dogs, coyotes, etc. We can't do anything about the roosters or coyotes, but if you want a relaxing afternoon nap in the hammock, just let us know and we'll work on quieter chores.
