Family of five living on Maui.
Absolutely perfect place for two out in the quiet maui countryside. Hosts were very accommodating and also respectful of allowing us our space. We certainly hope to return!
We enjoyed our stay at Ashley's very much! The apartment was very clean and spacious. Although we did not meet and Ashley and her husband face to face, we felt they were always available for any questions. The location was very quiet and peaceful!
We loved this spacious and quiet abode in the beginnings of upcountry. We loved seeing avocados growing outside and birds in the morning. My husband bought a souvenier shirt from the nearby general store. This is a perfect jumping off spot for Hana, Haleakala, Makawao and mellow Paia. Ashley was very accommodating with a coffe maker and a very clean place. The roads at night can be a little tricky so just pay attention when you head out. Aloha!
We enjoyed our stay at this place a lot. The property is just beautiful. The place was very clean and offered everything we needed. Ashley and her husband seemed very nice. We only bumped into them briefly, but they seemed open to any kind of question. We would certainly come back to this place. Highly recommendable.
First airbnb rental experience for my gf and I. Better than expected. Definitely better than a hotel rental. Would 100% rent from Ashley again if my girlfriend and I wanted to stay around the same area in the future.
Pros: Great value, clean spacious, completely furnished, king size bed, good location (we wanted to do the road to hana, visit haleakala national park, and visit some beaches), quiet at sleeping hours (we were not around during the day for the most part), secluded area (stores, restaurants, destinations, etc. were not within walking distance, but all within a 12-15 minute drive), rural, natury and peaceful environment, porch to sit on with great view, car rental option, easy car pickup from airport, Ashley drove us to the airport when we left, beach chairs provided, cable tv, celing fans, friendly and accessible hosts ( we texted/called ashley 4-6 times during our 5 day stay and got very quick responses each time), plenty of towels, kitchen appliances, dry/washer, brochures/maps provided, land line phone available to use for free in us and canada, large refrigerator, comfortable couch.
Cons: too hot in apartment (some floor fans would have helped. I didnt ashley for any help here, but if I did, I probably would have got something), tough to find parking spot on first night (if the picture of the parking spot was somehow labeled as the parking spot in the picture, it would have helped).
Thank you for everything ashley!
WE LOVED this place. Location is great, Haiku is central, makes it easy to get anywhere. Near Hana hway and Paia. Cozy lanai, we stared at the stars at night. The house is very cozy with all that you need. Ashley and her husband made themselves available to any questions and needs. Wish we could have stayed longer. Perfect house for a perfect romantic holiday.
Took my daughter to Maui for her 10th birthday and staying here was such an amazing time. Ashley and her family really made our stay feel like we were staying with family more than just a random stranger. We were in and out the first few days super busy enjoying the sights all over the island but when we decided to have a chill day around the house it was really relaxed, a great property to play outside or even just enjoying a nap on the couch. Wifi worked great for us which was nice so we could upload photos to friends and family. Loved that its located a little upcountry cause it made for cool evening with a great breeze if you open both sliding glass doors. Plenty of kitchen utensils and dishes to allow us to save money by cooking at the place rather than eating out all the time. We also opted to use their van which was perfect for us and made for a comfy ride everywhere on the island including all the way to the end of the road to Hana....they also have the road to Hana cd and a great book all about Maui for us to use. My daughter had fun playing with their children which was a big plus for us cause we have fun together but my daughter definitely loves being social. Overall I can't imagine having a better experience on our trip to Maui, it meant a lot to feel so welcomed and like an instant local. If we make it back to Maui we will most definitely stay here again if its available. :)
I love Ashley's place. So quiet and well equipped, with a good size. It is like living in your own condo, with the view of acres of green. Love it, would like to stay again if visit Maui on future.
My wife and I booked a two-stop Hawaiian honeymoon adventure, hoping to catch as much of the island life as possible. Maui was our first four days, and we wanted to stay somewhere a bit secluded and off the beaten path (the big-energy city part of the vaca was in Honolulu). We're also the kind of travelers that to create our own adventures - get the van rental! A car rental for this location is absolutely necessary, and you can't beat the price!
Haiku was excellent for our adventure choices. It's at the beginning of the Road to Hana; saves you an hour on the drive from all the resorts near Lahaina. SPEAKING of Lahaina, what a cool place to visit, and the drive from Haiku to there is awesome. There are a number of companies that leave from Haiku for the bicycle tours down the volcano Mount Haleakala. My parents insisted that we try that bike ride (they really enjoyed on their trip several years ago) - you won't be disappointed either.
As far as where to eat, we loved the Flatbread Pizza Company in Paia. You should go there in the early afternoon, and then watch the windsurfers just down the road. Truly nuts. The little gas-station minimart was really well stocked for vegan items (we were a little concerned, since Hawaii is not known as the most veg-friendly). That said, take the extra five mins to drive to the bigger grocery store; you'll save probably $100 during your stay, at least.
As for the apartment -- it was just like the picture I had in my head. Wraparound deck with windows and screen doors all around. Big open floorplan, with options to keep it casual or close off the rooms for a little privacy. We used the kitchen once or twice, but were glad to have the option all the same. The apartment is definitely directly downstairs from the family, so don't be surprised to see the kids wandering down at one point or another. But the hosts are super friendly and even lent us some of their beach stuff to make the experience that much easier.
You won't be sorry if you decide to stay here.
The property was exactly as described, and suited my husband and me well. We stayed at the Sheraton Waikiki on Honolulu for a conference, so we wanted a completely different experience on Maui, and that is what we got by staying in a neighborhood in the Upcountry with a fully stocked kitchen, lovely living area, nice bedroom, large bath, and gorgeous wraparound covered lanai.
We especially appreciated:
* the hosts' detailed written instructions
* beautiful views
* excellent closet and access to washer
* nicely stocked kitchen (we cooked there every night)
* charming nearby Paia town
* proximity to Kahului for food, gas, and supplies
* proximity to airport
* large, screened windows that welcomed the tropical breeze
* good linens
* full-sized refrigerator/freeezer
* gracious, helpful, but unobtrusive hosts
The Wongs' rental is a great value for a serene country setting that is within easy driving distance of everything on Maui.
