To clarify, we are definitely accessible to the Convention Center--most of our guests go there for their events, etc. and that hasn't ever been a problem before. We are two miles away. Also, Julie very kindly drove Judy back and forth to the Convention Center as well as back and forth to the airport at all hours of the day and night. Most people do allow the use of shoes in their home. I am not sure how that factors in, but yes, we have hardwood floors and we love to live in our home and have our guests feel comfortable walking with their shoes on. We did sweep and mop the floor and unfortunately, if there were dust bunnies that escaped us, we would have loved to be notified to rectify the situation. Nothing was ever said to us about any of her concerns after the fact. We assumed we had a very pleasant experience with Judy, so I am a little surprised by her comments. We live in a city--so there are lights and traffic noises periodically, but nothing that should hinder a person's sleep. We have hundreds of guests, and the majority are able to sleep well. : ) At any moment, the blinds could have been pulled down... Communication is key in serving our guests, and we respond immediately to any concerns that are brought to out attention in a timely manner! We love opening our home to guests and providing a home away from home!! We've been doing this for ten years, long before Airbnb, so we love to provide a positive and warm experience for our guests! 3
I am rather confused by Joe's claim that I did not respond. We spoke on the phone several times and I responded to all emails and text messages. I honestly don't know why he would say that. Additionally, if someone reads my entire listing they will discover that I am incredibly communicative and descriptive of where we are located. We are 13 blocks away from the beach, and a 30 minute walk. I don't know where the reference to Downtown Long Beach comes from. I make no claims to be right near downtown. The map that airbnb provides shows our location and one can explore that at any time. We are close to public transportation and there are several stores and shops nearby. It states very clearly in the profile we do NOT have an AC. We have a heater. We do however, provide our guests with fans. If there is an extreme heatwave, than that is an act of Mother Nature and we do our best to make our guests and ourselves comfortable within our given resources. Regarding the bathroom, we had a friend who needed an emergency place to stay for a couple of days. She was using the guest bathroom and was supposed to have it cleaned prior to the arrival since I was away the night before on a family emergency. She unfortunately did not get to it until later. So it wasn't as prepped as it usually is when I am available and getting ready for new guests. That is not the standard case, as you can see from our other reviews. Given how descriptive I have been, and the fact we have hosted close to 50 people in the last three years through various sites, and 99% of our reviews and recommendations are highly favorable, I do not agree we are misrepresenting. We are warm, loving, kind and compassionate people. Joe did not communicate with me at all, and instead left me a text. I responded with kindness and respect as I do with all our guests. Fortunately, 99% of our guests are happy with their stay and we even have a return guest coming from Germany who stayed with us two years ago for six months, coming back again for another six months on August 15th. The sweet guest who booked right after Joe, rebooked her stay immediately with us and is currently staying with us another week. We have had many, many return guests through the years. Those who get to know us and our home, know they can feel at home while traveling! : ) We do our best to provide a great experience!
Regarding our neighborhood, we live in an typical neighborhood in Long Beach. It is definitely NOT a ghetto and I am incredibly insulted by Steve's assessment. We have had many guests here from all walks of life who have found our home to be great. We have a nice car and there are MANY expensive cars on the street. There are no problems leaving it! Our neighbors are doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs, architects and social activists. We have a great community posted on the NEXTDOOR site with Ice Cream Socials and other get-togethers and a community garden two blocks away that has organic veggies and fruits taken care of by the community. We literally walk our dog at midnight and some of our guests use public transportation late in the evenings. We do not have any problems there. We live in a city. This isn't a secluded country living. I feel Steve harshly judged us and it is unfortunate. We never had the opportunity to meet Steve. Prior to his arrival we spoke on the phone three separate times to confirm his arrival. He notified me in the first conversation that he forgot to include his wife in the reservation and inquired about adding her to the reservation. The second time, he called to follow up on the reservation and he asked if we would be staying in the home the entire time. I told him that yes, we would be in the home as well. The third time he called me on the day of his arrival to let me know he would be arriving at 5:30pm. I was running errands so I wanted to make sure we locked in a time so I could be available to meet them. At about 4:20 I missed a call from Steve. At 4:30, when I recognized that I missed his call, I called Steve directly back and left a voice message. At close to 6:30 I called Steve again, concerned about his whereabouts and arrival as I had an engagement to go to at 7pm. I left another voice message. Steve called me back fifteen minutes later and had an entirely different tone of voice than from our previous conversations. I have always been very friendly and warm over the phone, so I was taken aback when he was blatantly rude with me over the phone. He informed me that he had already arrived to our place, and that he was upset I missed his call. (I had been expecting him at 5:30 and called him 10 minutes later with no answer.) He also accused me of misrepresenting our home in the ad posting, stating that he was expecting to have the entire place to himself. I politely informed him that our posting is highly detailed and that we had already had a personal conversation about the arrangement, so his accusation is unwarranted. I could not understand why he would say something like that. We have never had a problem with any of our guests in the two years we have been hosting. His tone grew even more aggressive and he said he would not be staying with us, at which point he hung up on me. I was literally shocked. He didn't step foot in our home, nor did he provide me an opportunity to address his needs or concerns. I never heard from him again. I contacted Airbnb and apprised them of the situation so they were informed of our transaction. Our listing is definitely NOT fraudulent. Comparatively speaking, we were very detailed in our profile and it is extremely clear what we are offering. We did not post an entire house and that has never come to our attention before. My personal opinion is that this guest has decided to be mean, nasty and judgmental and it is unfortunate that he would take the time to write a review from that perspective. We wish Steve and his wife all the best! We welcome wonderful, friendly and warm guests in our home. : )
