Just extraordinary... Lascaux, registered as a the World Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, is the finest of all prehistoric painted caves made by Cro Magnon man. Discovered by 4 young boys on Sept 12, 1940, the Lascaux cave in Montignac is situated in the Vézère Valley in the Département of Dordogne-Périgord. Today, the original Lascaux cave is closed, but Lascaux 4, an exact replica, is well worth the visit!

The original caves (over 18,000 years old) were discovered in 1940 and whilst the original caves were closed to the public in 1963, you can now visit a complete replica.
