The San Polo district is located in one of the most historically important areas of Venice (the islet of Rivo Alto, which later became Rialto): in fact it hosted one of the first settlements of fishermen and merchants who then developed the city. It is a very lively district, thanks also to the presence of the open-air market in Rialto, but also thanks to the many taverns frequented by the Venetians, where you can drink a "ombra" and eat a "cicheto". At the foot of the Rialto bridge, before reaching the ancient market, you can visit the oldest church in Venice, the church of San Giacomo di Rialto (called San Giacometto), and then continue towards the market. Here, while walking among the fish stalls, you can admire the Pescheria Vecia and the Pescheria Nova, and you can have a wonderful view of the Grand Canal and the Palazzo della Ca 'd'Oro located on the opposite bank. The sestiere takes its name from the largest field in Venice (Campo San Polo), surrounded by marvelous palaces, beyond which you can reach one of the most beautiful and important Gothic churches in the city, the Basilica dei Frari. Just behind the Frari church there is the Scuola Grande di San Rocco which houses, among other things, 54 wonderful paintings by Tintoretto. But the beauty of the district is also and above all the atmosphere that reigns in the callette, between wonderful Gothic and Renaissance palaces and small hidden courtyards.

E' un campo molto bello in cui spesso fanno manifestazioni, spesso d'estate fanno il cinema all'aperto e d'inverno mettono la pista di pattinaggio sul ghiaccio

Si dice San Polo, e viene subito in mente uno dei centri pulsanti più importanti della città, il mercato. Il mercato del pesce è ancora uno dei luoghi più caratteristici, vivi e tradizionali della città ed una visita è obbligatoria (apre all'alba e chiude verso le 12). Si può raggiungere anche facendo un'esperienza vera come quella della gondola traghetto. Questa gondola attraversa il Canal Grande ogni 5 minuti facendo da spola tra il mercato e Cannaregio. Il costo è di soli 2€. Proseguiamo la scoperta del quartiere passeggiando fino a campo San Polo (uno dei più grandi della città) e campo dei Frari. Qui si trovano la splendida chiesa dei Frari e la Scuola di San Rocco che meritano sicuramente una visita.
