Mary Magdalene Tower is the oldest building on the Castle Hill. A real survivor, who escaped the Turkish occupation, Austrian liberation from the Turks, time-after-time revolutions against the Habsburgs and two world wars. The tower with its 173 steps has been staying over its neighbourhood for over 500 years, now waiting for visitors to climb to the top and marvelling the view to Budapest.

Built in the 13th century. During the Ottoman Occupation of Hungary, it was the only functioning Christian church in the country, until its transformation to a mosque in the 16th century. Its original function was later restored and it served as the coronation venue for Franz I of Hungary. It suffered severe damage throughout the World Wars, and it was almost completely destroyed during the Communist Era - with the exception of its Gothic belfry and some minor sections.***

Climb ~150 stairs and you'll get the most breathtaking panorama from Buda. Don't forget your wide-angle and telephoto lens to bring to the tower.
