Lello Bookstore, historic and very famous bookstore that inspired the author of Harry Potter.
The Livraria Lello bookstore in Porto is one of the world's oldest bookstores, frequently ranked as one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world, and a top place to visit in Portugal.
Stunning staircase and timber engraved cladding... use to get there when I was young... but now it is so popular there is always a queue so they can control the flux. Miss the days I could just walk in, but hey also so very proud to see people queuing for entering a library! So don’t leave without…
Considered one of world’s most beautiful bookstores, it's also called the Harry Potter bookstore. There are so many visitors these days that you are now charged to enter, but this is discounted from any purchase
First open in 1881 it’s one of the oldest libraries in Portugal. The bookstore was frequented by JK Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series, when she taught English in Porto and is reported to be an inspiration for her writing.

Point of Interest
“2019: the building is currently going under massive refurbishment which I cannot wait to see the result as a Porto inhabitant but also as an Architect. So far the time being, you can still enjoy the very fresh food producers stand in the relocated Mercado do Bolhão a little further away. Open on a daily basis and always fresh!”
