Powys Castle is stunning and well worth a visit. There are many pathways to the gardens below. At certain times the cafe is open in the gardens and there is also a restaurant at the entrance to the castle.
Powys Castle, built circa 1200, began life as the medieval fortress of the Welsh Princes of Powys. The world-famous gardens, overhung with clipped yews, shelters rare plants laid out under the influence of Italian and French styles. Welshpool, Powys, SY21 8RF
Powys Castle and gardens are interesting to see any time of year and just 20 minutes’ walk from the Stable. It’s a National Trust property and has two cafes. You can drive there but we enjoy the walk and sometimes extend it with a walk to Belan Locks and back along the Montgomery Canal
