This town is very chill and outdoor oriented. It's at 5,500 ft so keep that in mind when packing. You can walk the entire town so wear comfy shoes.

A great drive from the valley up into the mountains and back down again. Don't forget lunch in Idylwild.

Idyllwild is a small little town with a great big heart. Unlike the hustle of Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear, Idyllwild has maintain a low key for people wanting to enjoy the mountains without all the tourist.

Several great trails to hike with your dog here. As it's higher up it's a bit cooler than the desert but come early in the summer. There are some shady trails.

Travel down HWY 111, turn left at Monterey/74 and enjoy the ride up 74. SugarLoaf Mountain Cafe at the top has excellent food and so does the diner, I think it's called Paradise at the Anza/Temecula split. Idyllwild is up the mountain, through Gardenerville with it's picturesque horse properties, past Lake Hemet which is a fun place to camp or just go out to the lake for the day. Past Hurkey Creek on the right, great for camping. The town features great restaurants and shops. Also, stay a night at the BlueBird Lodge for a very reasonable price. Make sure to stop at the ranger station in town to get a pass to go up the road and go hiking to the bottom of Taquitiz Rock. Dogs allowed in town and infant was voted the most dog friendly town. But not not he trails.
