You can't come to SD and just not see it! The museum/info center is very interesting--it has a lot of information and photos on the creating of the monument. (Also has delicious ice cream!)
Love this place - they do a light show at night - check the schedule. Don't miss Iron Mountain road and the tunnels!
While you are there check out the museum and the story of what it took to make Mount Rushmore.
Don't forget to stop in Keystone. Needles Highway and Iron Mountain Road are routes that pass through this area that are a must drive/ride. Don't forget the Custer Wildlife Loop Road either.

“This is in Hill City - wonderful lunches with a variety of options. Dinner is steak, they do have a kid and vegetarian option at night but that's it. Wait can be long if you get there late. Order dessert! Closed on Sundays!”

“The best breakfast in town! Just get there early to beat the crowd as seating is limited. Head Chef, Ben Klinkel, has really poured his heart into this place and you can tell. The food is exquisite. ”

“Delve into the history of the Native peoples of the Black Hills, seeing their hardships and struggles in a way not depicted by modern history books. Listen to their stories, immerse yourself in their culture, and come away a better person for having done so. ”
