Somewhat off-the-beaten path valley that's a wonderful place for outdoor activities throughout the year. Backcountry skiing and snowmobiling hotspot in winter, fishing in spring and summer and foilage touring in fall.

This is a wilderness area along Carson Pass that is beautiful. Carson River flows through which you can fish. Access to great hiking, snow shoe, XC ski and snow play areas. You can access a lot of high alpine lakes including Caples, Reds-and the Blue Lakes region. Tahoe Rim Trail and PCT cross this region. You can do it as a loop from 395 into Tahoe and US 50. Great drive and fall colors. The highest peak in the Carson Range — Freel— is hikable in this area.

Stunning is the word that comes to mind when I think of Hope Valley in it's fall colors. But, it's also gorgeous any time of year and the wildflowers in this area can be stunning. Worth the trip by itself, it's especially gratifying when linked with a side trip to Grover Hot Springs which is another 20 minutes or so down the road.
