Beautiful views from the Wildlife loop. Live Buffalo (caution, they are animals and can charge if you get out of your vehicle), burros that love food, small wild animals.

The visitor center can tell you where the buffalo heard is located. With so much to do in the area they can save you time searching for them.

Custer State Park has lots to offer, you won't go wrong with a scenic hike, drive through the wildlife loop or a meal and at any of the restaurants within the park.

Custer State Park is located in the southern Black Hills of South Dakota and is considered one of the top 10 Wildlife Destinations in the World. This sprawling 71,000 acre park is best known for its herd of 1300 roaming bison. It’s also home to elk, pronghorns, mule and white-tailed deer, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, mountain lions and burros. Wildlife can easily be seen along the popular Wildlife Loop drive and Iron Mountain Road. Custer State Park boasts four mountain lakes and a variety of hiking, biking and walking trails. The park is also known for its scenic drives along the pig tail bridges and the needles highway. Custer State Park offers a variety of history and naturalist programs, as well as adventures like horseback riding, rock climbing, canoeing, mountain biking and fly-fishing. The Custer State Park Visitors Center is open year-round is a great start to your adventure. Memorial Day - Labor Day: Open 9:00 am - 6:00 pm Labor Day - September 30: Open 9:00 am - 6:00 pm October 1 - Memorial Day: Open 9:00 am - 4:00 pm 7 days a week. Closed: Thanksgiving, Christmas
