Lake Chivero National Park offers a wide variety of activities, if you have free day in Harare its worth a visit. The national park run a successful Rhino conservation project, and the park is well stocked with local wildlife, perfect for game drives. The Lion Park which is situated at Chivero is also worth a visit, and the zoo area include a number of animals that require rehabilitation. Lion feeding is done several days a week in the late afternoon, if you are lucky enough to catch it is quite a spectacle. Kuimba Shiri is a Bird Park & Sanctuary that is also situated at Lake Chivero and if you are making a trip out to the lake be sure to pop in there as well. They have an amazing selection of birds, and often in the late afternoons they fly the birds of prey which is well worth watching. Basic teas and lunches are served at the bird park. Those heading out to Chivero should also stop in at the Snake Park which is situated just before the lake. Unfortunately the water quality of the lake is poor at the moment so water sports and fishing etc. is not advisable. Booking is not required unless for specific activities.

You'll see a good selection of wildlife, including rhino, antelope (impala, kudu, waterbuck, sable and nyala if you are lucky), wildebeest (also called "gnus") ostrich, giraffe, baboons and vervet monkies. Good birdlife too - fish eagles galore, egrets, plovers, kingfishers, herons, shrikes, weaver birds etc. There are some cave paintings and rustic picnic spots too, as well as a MOTH shrine, commemorating people who fought in the great wars. Note: there are no large cats in the park, but there is a privately run lion and cheetah park a few kms away.
