Offers opportunities for bird watching, wildlife photography, and fishing. You must obtain a lake access permit and liability waiver to fish on refuge waters.

Emiquon is owned by the Nature Conservancy and next to the Everglades is the largest wetland preservation project in the United States. It is an amazing birding location with endangered species and rare migratory birds. It is also a great fishing spot! We offer kayaks to explore the wetlands at an additional rate. Just ask!

Emiquon is a fantastic area to explore for hiking, birding, fishing and just exploring nature, just across the river from Havana.

Hours: Open Sunrise to Sunset At more than 6,000 acres, Emiquon is one of the largest floodplain restoration projects in the Midwest. It is the premiere demonstration site for The Nature Conservancy’s work on the Illinois River and within the Upper Mississippi River system and ultimately will help guide large floodplain river restoration efforts around the world. As part of the restoration process, TNC installed a ground-breaking water management structure that reconnects the floodplain to the Illinois River for the benefit of both people and nature.

Gorgeous wetland with observation deck, boat launch, walking paths and area information, a 7 minute drive across the river. See many waterfowl and wetland grasses! See Bald Eagles nesting during the winter.
