A colonial small house which was the birthplace of one of Cuba's greatest Romantic poets and the man after whom the street is named, José María Heredia y Heredia (1803–39). Heredia's most notable work, 'Ode to Niagara,' is inscribed outside. Due to his pro-independence ideas he was forced into exile by the colonial authorities, dying in Mexico in 1839.
