If you don't do the river-walk you haven't been San Antonio. If you don't want to pay too much park over by La Villita some spots are only $5 or do the parking garages at the Pearl they are free and just take a walk 2 miles into downtown.
Of course you can not stay in San Antonio and not visit the Historic Riverwalk. Downtown San Antonio offers plenty of sightseeing along with places to eat.
