This museum has paintings and sculptures by the most prominent Filipino artists in the 19th and 20th centuries. Among them are Juan Luna, Fernando Zóbel and Félix Hidalgo, who represented a wave of Filipino art that swelled as the country was pushing for independence from Spain.

Located in two heritage buildings on Burgos Street, the National Museum is the best place to spend a couple of hours or more. Wonderfully curated, excellently maintained, and a chockful of all the cultural wonders that the Philippines has to offer. Best part - it's FREE! I recommend going on a weekday when it's not so full and make sure to see the humongous "Spoliarium" - a behemoth of a painting done by Filipino National Artist Juan Luna.
