"Die weiße Stadt" - die Altstadt von Ostuni ist ein malerischer, zauberhafter Ort. Ostuni ist auf der Halbinsel Salento gelegen, hat ca. 30.000 Einwohner und liegt in der Provinz Brindisi. Es ist ca. 8 km landeinwärts von der Adriaküste entfernt auf einer Höhe von 220 Metern. Von diversen Plätzen aus bietet sich ein wunderschöner Ausblick auf das Meer und die umliegenden Olivenplantagen. Die weißen Kalksteinhäuser ergeben auf verschachtelter Weise, treppauf treppab, ein faszinierendes Labyrinth von schmalen Gassen und kleinen versteckten Plätzen die dazu einladen, näher erkundet zu werden. Hier eine Trattoria, da ein hübscher kleiner Laden und dort ein kleines Atelier. Im Sommer gibt es viele Veranstaltungen im Freien und Straßenkünstler, die man bewundern kann. In der Altstadt gibt es auch einladende Cafes, Eisdielen und Nachtclubs. Souvenirs findet man hier an jeder Ecke in den vielen kleinen Läden, die bis zu später Stunde geöffnet sind. Bequeme Schuhe sind sehr zu empfehlen, es geht in der Altstadt auf und ab auf steinigen engen Gassen.

The Medieval old town of Ostuni with the Cathedral ( Duomo) of Ostuni when you reach the top. Very narrow winding streets opening occasionally to offer views of the olive groves and the sea. Many of the best restaurants in town are here.

Ostuni is one of those cities that you can visit in a short time yet want to spend more time being there. The views from up on the hill are breathtaking and viewing the city at night from below is gorgeous. The old city is wonderful to walk around, with its tiny winding streets with the pure white houses on all sides. The lime wash not only gives lightness to the narrow alleys but originally is thought to have been applied as a disinfectant, to protect from the plague. Wander freely, get lost as you will always find your starting point! There are many bars, cafés & restaurants including the famous Riccardo Caffe (nighttime cocktail spot), Gipas 111 & Osteria del Temp Perso. Or tour by Ape!
