On the "Ped Mall," you'll find shopping, bars, restaurants, a grocery store, an independent movie house (Film Scene), chocolates and yogurt, and often live music on the Pedestrian Mall (known as the Ped Mall). It's iconic Iowa City. The vibe changes from family-friendly during the day and early…

In Downtown Iowa City you can walk to restaurants, shops, coffee, live music, yoga, art galleries...and lots more I can't think of at the moment, all in a 1 mile radius. The pedestrian mall is a car-free zone with brick-lined streets and beautiful trees.

“Check out this historic theater in the heart of Downtown Iowa City. It hosts an amazing range of shows, from regional musical acts, hilarious comedians, visits from nationally (if not internationally) popular podcast hosts, readings from authors, and many many more! Check out their website for a calendar of events.”

“This place is terrific no matter what you like to do. Lake Macbride is a no-wake lake so you can kayak, canoe, etc. There are motor restrictions on this lake so don't plan to take a boat with bigger than a 9.9 HP motor from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Beach, hiking trails, boat ramps, fishing. The sunsets here are incredible - many options for picnics for families or for a romantic evening. You will need a car to get to this spot unless you hike the five mile trail from town. ”

“"The 'Burg" is a local landmark. Plenty of politicians have eaten here on the campaign trail. There are photos of Reagan, Obama, Clinton and more who have stumped here. Ask your server who sat where. Or just look at the many memorabilia from celebrities and politicos. Vote in the Coffee Bean Caucus when you eat there during the run-up to an election. This restaurant even has a book written about it, as it's been the hangout for many a writer from the famed Iowa Writers Workshop. Breakfast served all day, along with the famous pie shake talked about by Scott Simon on NPR.”
