Bring a flashlight or headlamp (or borrow one from me) to explore the old train tunnels on Donner Pass. Super fun for all ages. Short hike through the first tunnel to get spectacular views of the Donner Pass and lake.

Extremely interesting hike to the summit tunnels. Get on I-80 E Follow I-80 E to Donner Pass Rd in Soda Springs. Take exit 174 from I-80 E Follow Donner Pass Rd to Sugar Bowl Rd

A really cool hike to do with kids is the (abandoned) Donner Summit Train Tunnels. The interesting section runs about 2 miles (so ~4 miles out and back).
