Medieval castle built on a precipice above the city of Bled in Slovenia, overlooking Lake Bled. According to written sources, it is the oldest Slovenian castle and is currently one of the most visited tourist attractions in Slovenia. Nowadays, the castle is employed as a historical museum with a collection that represents the lake's history.

This is a lovely medieval castle built on a precipice above the town of Bled, overlooking Lake Bled. The views from the castle over the lake and town to the mountains beyond are really spectacular. You have to pay an entrance fee to get into the grounds of the castle, but it is well worth it. The museum in the castle is really interesting and there is a blacksmiths forge, old printing room and a small chapel. Throughout the year, but especially in the summer months, the castle hosts numerous interesting events.

Bled's 'commanding height'. Check the views, not only on the lake, on a good day you can see the hills surrounding Ljubljana. You can get here over a forested ridge and over a meadow, or along the northern lake shore and then up. Both will take you about half an hour.
