Good pub food. The Hawes Inn is mentioned in the book Kidnapped by Robert L. Stevenson.

Great pub grub overlooking the Forth Rail Bridge, an iconic bridge in Edinburgh.

Now part of the Vintage Inns chain. However, Robert Louis Stevenson stayed here while he was writing Kidnapped and made reference to it in the book. Worth checking out if only for that reason.

A very popular place for food or just a drink, connected with the famous author Robert Louis Stevenson who reported wrote some of his best work in the Inn.

“Inchcolm Island is by far the most beautiful of all of the islands in the Firth of Forth. It is located 4 miles east of the Forth Bridge, 1 mile from the Fife coast near Aberdour and just 6 miles as the crow flies from Edinburgh City Centre The Island is cared for by Historic Scotland and is commonly referred to as the 'Iona of the East' due to it's similarity to the Island of Iona on the west coast of Scotland. Inchcolm Abbey dates back to the 12th Century, being founded by King David I, after his brother King Alexander I was forced to seek shelter there during a very stormy crossing of the Forth in 1123. The Abbey remains as the best preserved group of monastic buildings in Scotland.”

“The 17th century House of the Binns is the historic home of the Dalyells. It is a National Trust Property and can be visited by appointment. The extensive grounds are open all year and are next door to our cottage, great for a leisurely morning or evening stroll to the folly on the hill providing panoramic views of the Firth of Forth, the Peatland Hills and the west lothian landscape. ”
