If carriage tours are your thing, this is my favorite company. They take amazing care of the mules (not horses.) They have an in-house vet and the mules rotate between downtown and a farm in Johns Island. A carriage tour or walking tour is a great way to learn about Charleston and get a lay of the land. I recommend doing it in the beginning of your trip so you can go back and explore things you like more later.

An absolute "must do" when visiting historic Charleston. Head to Palmetto Carriage Works red barn or go online and buy tickets for an hour long guided carriage tour through downtown Charleston and learn some things that are specific to this beautiful city. Guides are knowledgable and will take you on any one of three different tours that are chosen completely by lottery in order to keep horse traffic at a minimum...This is a wonderful way to experience Charleston!
