Milford Sound is a 2 hour drive from Te Anau. You should allow at least 3 hours as there are lots of lovely scenic stops on the way. In our AirBnB guidebook (in the Villa), we have a copy of a road map which makes the best scenic stops. It's essential you cruise on Milford Sound as you can only see the entrance to the Sound from the wharf. We recommend a small boat cruise option as it's more personal. The cruise usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on which company you use.

The eighth wonder of the word? This is a must do day trip - taking in the many stops on your way to Milford such as mirror lakes or the roaring chasms. In Milford, book a cruise and see the beautiful scenery and wildlife (seals, dolphins, maybe even a whale). You will need a day for this. Drive yourself or consider booking through Real Journeys or Southern Discoveries.
