Although the Side Hack is also a great saloon, it may have the best breakfast in the area. Well known by locals, try the Side Hack for a great and reasonably priced breakfast. We are sure you won't be disappointed.

The Knuckle is not only a restaurant but a great Saloon and loaded with old memorabilia of the area, specifically the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. A great menu and daily specials and full compliment bar at your disposal. On special occasions, The Knuckle hosts special events like a Bull Riding event in the bar, the SuperMoto bike race, etc. Connected and part of the overall business is The Knuckle Brewery, Sturgis' only brewery. This is a local favorite for us.

Custer State Park is where the buffalo roam, literally and visiting the Black Hills wouldn't be complete without a drive through the Custer State Park to visit wild buffalo, feed the donkeys, see elk, deer, antelope, prairie dogs, etc roaming throughout the park. We visit the park several times a year. Word of warning - stay a safe distance from the buffalo and always remain in your vehicle

What a spectacular site, the Mount Rushmore Memorial. Whether a local or tourist in the Hills, the Mt. Rushmore Memorial is a MUST see. Take your camera and take a memorable shot with the famous faces in the background. Spend 30 minutes or several hours hiking around the Mt. Rushmore trails and viewing the faces from different angles, reading the story of the history of the building of Mt. Rushmore and taking home a souvenir or two.

Iron Mountain Road, also known as 16A, is an incredible journey, an unforgettable experience. We believe that it is the most unusual and captivating road in America. Everyone that has experienced this 17 mile stretch in the Black Hills of South Dakota leaves with an opinion about this road, either good or bad this road will leave an impression. We want folks to learn about and appreciate this road for what it is, a historical work of art designed to make you slow down, to see and feel things that you don’t experience every day. If you ride motorcycles, this is a must do event for the experienced riders. Pigtails and views galore on this short and slow ride. http://www.ironmountainroad.com/

Historic Deadwood was an old west town where gold was mined and cowboys made history. The Old Style Saloon is where Wild Bill Hickock was shot while playing poker, holding black Aces and Eights, known as the dead man's hand today. Clamity Jane, Preacher Smith, Jack McCall and the gang are part of the gang that made Deadwood famous. Their graves are high on Mt. Moriah, the cemetery where these and other famous faces are buried and is a great tour also Today, historic Deadwood is filled with casinos for gambling, dining, entertainment and more. Today, the Old Style Saloon is one of our favorites, although not a fancy place, just filled with history of the early days in the West.

Very few people have had a full-grown black bear look in the window of their family car, or if they have, it was not by choice. Even fewer have seen a reindeer or a elk up close. However, many people are getting experiences like these at Bear Country U.S.A. in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Nestled over 200 acres amidst towering pines and along rolling meadows just eight miles south of Rapid City, Bear Country U.S.A. offers visitors intimate views of most North American mammals. Visitors take a leisurely three-mile drive through several enclosures and encounter black bear, elk, reindeer, deer, cougars, bobcats, rocky mountain goats, bighorn sheep, dall sheep, pronghorn and buffalo. At this “the home of the largest collection of privately owned black bear in the world”, Bear Country U.S.A. guests are guaranteed to see more than they bargained for. From the comfort of their own car, visitors watch as these clowns of nature frolic in a pool, climb trees and amble across the road in front of their vehicle.

There are plenty of attractions for families to take in at Reptile Gardens. Stroll through our garden oasis of colorful flowers, lush vegetation, and well manicured lawns. Discover a myriad of ornamental trees, tropical plants, orchids, and bromeliads. Meet our exotic residents! Enjoy a chance encounter with our notorious saltwater crocodile, visit our legendary collection of venomous snakes, or pet our gentle giants, the Galapagos and Aldabra Tortoises. We also have a few non-reptilian pets – a majestic Bald Eagle named Cheyenne and a coterie of fun loving Prairie Dogs. Take in a show - watch the alligators and crocodiles do their thing, learn about snakes, or meet birds from around the world. Have fun and enjoy the day! Exceptional hospitality and clean, neat, well-kept grounds are our top priorities. Earl (the park’s patriarch) believed that you can never offer your Guests enough hospitality, nor can your facility be clean enough. We continue this fanaticism for making our Guests happy and offering them a spotless and safe park.

At 7,242 feet, Harney Peak stands prominently as the highest point in the Black Hills of western South Dakota. Standing sentinel over the Black Hills, Harney Peak is topped by a stone fire tower providing a magnificent view of the surrounding landscape. Nestled in a designated wilderness area, and surrounded by the Black Hills National Forest, it is accessible by hiking a 3.5 mile trail starting from Custer State Park. The granite highpoint is sacred ground to Native Americans, especially the Sioux Lakota. It was upon this peak towering over the Lakota Nation that a young Black Elk experienced a vision. Many years later he would recount that vision publicly as he evolved as a respected elder and medicine man. If you enjoy hiking, this is a fabulous hike but plan on a half day adventure. We like this hike.

Walk in the footsteps of the past, explore the outdoors, or simply enjoy a stroll! Imagine a path where the ghosts of Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane still roam; where bicyclists, hikers and horseback riders can explore spruce and ponderosa pine forests; and the very young, the very old and people of all abilities can enjoy. The George S. Mickelson Trail, in the heart of the beautiful Black Hills, was completed in September of 1998. Its gentle slopes and easy access allow people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the beauty of the Black Hills. Much of the trail passes through National Forest Land, but there are parts of the trail that pass through privately owned land, where trail use is restricted to the trail only. The trail is 109 miles long and contains more than 100 converted railroad bridges and 4 rock tunnels. The trail surface is primarily crushed limestone and gravel. There are 15 trailheads, all of which offer parking, self-sale trail pass stations, vault toilets, and tables. Bridge over creek A majority of the trail does not exceed a 4% grade, but parts of the trail are considered strenuous. Dumont is the highest point and the 19 mile stretch from Deadwood to Dumont is the longest incline. Note: Poor to non-existent cell phone coverage on the trail This is a hiking and bicycling trail that can be accessed from many places along the 108 mile trail. Check out the website for additional details.

The Crow Peak Brewery in Spearfish is our favorite brewery simply because the beers are the best tasting. The Black Hills has several breweries, but Crow Peak earns our personal best rating. Although Crow Peak doesn't have a restaurant, a great Tex-Mex restaurant, Guadalajara, is a great restaurant and a remarkable find for Tex-Mex in the Black Hills. We recommend a tandem experience at the brewery and restaurant - it's a hit. http://www.crowpeakbrewing.com/ http://restaurantdeguadlajara.com/
