One of the oldest and most carefully preserved medieval towns in Slovenia enraptures merely by walking through its two squares. The old town centre is composed of an upper square called Mestni Trg or Plac which ends with the oldest bridge in the country, and the lower, Spodnji Trg or Lontrg, both of which are dominated by Škofja Loka Castle. The castle hosts a museum with rich collections that range across archaeology, cultural history, art history and ethnology to the natural sciences. A trail leads to the castle gate. Jezersko is a picturesque valley, surrounded from the east by high summits of sixty million years old Kamnik-Savinja Alps and from the west by more than three hundred million years old coral reef. The valley shaped by the vast glacier which disappeared ten thousand years ago and flooded by the waters of melting ice that shaped a big lake after which it got its original name "Pr Jezer” (At the lake). The name was later modernized into today’s "Jezersko”. The nearby city Kranj is the capital of Slovenian Alps and the cultural heart of Slovenia. The old town of Kranj is one of the most charming in Slovenia, with an interesting contrast in the modernist buildings at the entrance to the town centre. At every step, you can feel the affection for culture and the greatest Slovenian poet, France Prešeren. Underneath the town of Kranj, there are numerous artificial underground facilities that have long ago lost their original purpose and slipped into oblivion, but invite us as works of human hands to uncover their story. Among them, the most interesting one is the old town’s shelter, built during the Second World War. Driving distance/time from Granny’s pLace: 45 km/1 h
